Dear friends of the Sunshine Coast region. I am very excited to return to one of my favourite places The Bison Bar - it has been too long between visits.

I am honoured to have a brilliant artist, local and dear friend Hannah Jane (of Sweet Formidables) joining me! Hannah is a truly sublime songwriter and performer. Her voice is otherworldly beautiful and communicates the shape of her soul in a way that is undeniable and deeply affecting. Add to this her masterful violin and guitar playing and you have a transcendent experience, best enjoyed in a setting as warm as The Bison Bar.

As for myself, I'll be bringing a bunch of new material from my soon to be released second album, as well as some new material I've been working on for intimate spaces such as this. It's going to be special and I hope you will join us!

Kilian Jornet, the best mountain runner in history, wrote as a child a list of all the races he would like to win and all the mountains he dreamed of climbing.

In May 2017 he ticked off the last on the list with the historic double, solo ascent of Everest, without oxygen and in a single climb. It marked the climax of the Summits of My Life project which over five years took him to some of the world’s most famous peaks, accompanied by a small group of climbers.

PATH TO EVEREST, directed by Sébastien Montaz-Rosset and Josep Serra, follows the path that led Kilian Jornet to the highest peak in the world in an intimate portrait that reveals his fears, contradictions and his desire to keep seeking new challenges so that he can continue to dream, surrounded by the mountains and people who are his inspiration.

PATH TO EVEREST is presented by Adventure Entertainment and perfect for anyone who enjoyed the Oscar-winning documentary, FREE SOLO.

‘The jungle is coming up to the door,
The birds that are calling are hard to ignore’

‘Inferno’, set for release on March 1, is acclaimed Australian singer-songwriter Robert Forster’s first solo album in 4 years - his second album over the last eleven years. Forster only makes records when he feels he has the songs – on Inferno, he has 9 he totally believes in.

They range from the exhilarating top ten pop of Inferno (Brisbane In Summer), the beach shack groove of Life Has Turned a Page, via Remain’s 1977 New York strut, to finish in a way that this concise, brilliant, drama and wit filled album only can - on the big build epic One Bird In The Sky.

Inferno was made in Berlin in 2018, during the hottest German summer in decades. Noted producer/engineer Victor Van Vugt (Beth Orton ‘Trailor Park’, P J Harvey ‘Stories of the City, Stories from the Sea’), recorded the album; the first time he and Forster had worked together since Van Vugt engineered Forster’s debut solo album classic ‘Danger In The Past’ in Berlin in 1990.

Inferno in its making is a perfect mix of the familiar and the new. Also working with Forster again, are Brisbane based multi-instrumentalists Scott Bromiley and Karin Bãumler from 'Songs To Play’ (2015). While, new recruits are drummer Earl Havin (Tindersticks, Mary J.Blige) and keyboardist Michael Muhlhaus (Blumfeld, Kante). Four musicians from the corners of the world, who, with Van Vugt’s bold and beautiful production, sound like a band of the ages. In front of them, Forster delivers the best vocal performances of his career

Early praise for ‘Inferno’ single:“There’s a classic rock’n’roll swing to the first cut from The Go-Betweens founder’s new album” - Q Magazine

“Deliciously wry, effortlessly melodious reflections on ageing, climate change andthe debatable consolations of cult status: “I don’t need no fame!” - Uncut

Over the last four years Forster has been busy. He curated the acclaimed, Domino Records released, ‘Anthology Volume 1 1978-1984’ on his old band The Go-Betweens.His memoir ‘Grant & amp; I’ was Mojo and Uncut’s Book Of The Year. He continues to publish music journalism, play concerts, and he never stops writing beautiful songs.

See Robert and band showcasing songs from his latest release 'Inferno' and from his substantial back catalogue at The Bison Bar, Sunday 30th. Don't miss this one!

The Nambour Winter Jazz Fest is giving guitarists the opportunity to boost their performance skills at a jazz guitar workshop on Saturday 20th July, from 9:30 – 11:00am with festival artist Bruce Woodward.

Bruce Woodward has quietly been establishing a reputation as one Queensland’s finest jazz guitarists. Bruce is currently lecturer in guitar at the University of Southern Queensland and is known for his distinctive playing and unique voice on the guitar. He is a graduate of both the Western Australian and Queensland Conservatories and has performed at many festivals and events.

Bruce has also been a member of a number of groups, sharing long creative partnerships with artists such as The View from Madeleine’s Couch and Mark Sholtez. He has contributed his distinctive playing to performances and recordings by artists as diverse as James Morrison, Bill Watrous, Mark Sholtez, Wendy Matthews, Rick Price, Sara Storer and Tom Burlinson.

Performing later in the day at the Nambour Winter Jazz Fest, Bruce will take time out to share his talents with workshop participants. Topics may include introduction to jazz chords, improvising melodic lines, jazz rhythm, and ear training. This will be a marvellous opportunity for musicians to learn from a guitarist of such a high calibre.

Dave Graney and the mistLY play Nambour @ The Bison Bar

Dave Graney and the mistLY play Nambour @ The Bison Bar

The Bison Bar (map)

Dave Graney and the mistLY are gonna paint up 2019 with a new album called ZIPPA DEEDOO WHAT IS/WAS THAT/THIS?

Its approximately the 33rd (?) from Dave Graney and multi instrumentalist Clare Moore and is a killer set of rock music. Made properly, like they’ve always done. It has “eight songs done thirteen ways” and ranges from pop gems like “baby I wish I’d been a better pop star” to their homage to Stones Lore in ULTRAKEEF and then the 8 1/2 minute West Coast epic jam that is served up twice that is Is That WhatYou Did?.

They play music drawn from a lifetime in rock ’n’ roll culture. They didn’t learn their licks in school, they made their own mistakes and set up their own standards.

Whatever they do, whatever they play, they bring their ace game. Their primo strategies. Their stellar grooves and street wise lyrical fire.

ZIPPA DEEDOO WHAT IS/WAS THAT/THIS? (The title comes from the chorus of “Song Of Life” ) is a classic rock’n’roll album. Classic if you lived through what has become known as ”the classic rock era” as it rolled out new and even broke onto the beachhead and morphed into punk. That’s the direction Dave Graney and Clare Moore have always been coming from. They have spent their lives schooled by and immersed in rock ‘n’ roll culture. Neither attended higher education and they dived in deep and kept swimming. From the Moodists through the Coral Snakes/White Buffaloes to the mistLY .
