Opening new windows on the worlds of human connection
Q Up The Coast have brought together 3 very different shows that explore the basic human need of connection.
“Separation Anxieties” is a one-man show. Roscoe wakes up frightened in the middle of the night to find there is no phone, no internet and no television. He becomes anxious as he realises and then struggles to deal with his lack of connection. Dark memories resurface and past wounds re-open without the constant distractions of a media-filled world.
“Volume” by Tremayne Gordon was originally performed at Brisbane’s DIY Festival in 2015 with a follow up season at the Sydney Fringe Festival in 2016. It follows the meeting of two strangers and their journey to friendship via a hefty disagreement about their musical tastes. In learning about each other’s differences the two find a common ground that results in friendship.
“…k” began as a devised performance by USC drama students in 2015. It centres on the stories of a few characters and their interactions on social media with both happy and devastating results. Topics include online dating and cat-fishing. In 2017 it will be re-developed, led by two of the original collaborators for the Anywhere Festival.
